Your Loading Point Is Probably Your Biggest Dust and Wear Problem

Every time bulk material falls from a conveyor head, silo outlet or hopper into a truck, wagon or stockpile, it generates a dust cloud and high-impact wear on the loading equipment. Over time this means dust complaints, compliance issues, product loss and frequent equipment replacement.

Stotko Engineering designs and supplies bulk material loading equipment including loading chutes, telescopic loading spouts and dust-free truck loading systems, specifically engineered to solve this problem. We have been doing it in Johannesburg since 1973.

Our approach is simple: wear-resistant materials, flexible design, quick-change spare parts. The result is loading equipment that keeps running longer and costs less to maintain than anything comparable on the South African market.

Bulk Material Loading Equipment We Supply

Four engineering configurations covering the full range of bulk loading applications from standard silo discharge to fully dust-contained open truck loading.

TYPE 1

Standard Flexible Loading Chute

The foundation of our product range. A flexible inner and outer hose construction that absorbs impact, reduces spillage and directs bulk material flow at silo outlets, conveyor head chutes and hopper discharge points. Even our standard flexible loading chute carries the Stotko wear-resistance design philosophy.

  • Flexible inner and outer hose construction
  • Silo, bin, hopper and conveyor discharge
  • Handles grain, powder, aggregate and mineral ore
  • Quick spare part replacement design

Also known as: flexible loading spout, discharge chute, silo loading chute

TYPE 2

Steel Cone Reinforced Loading Chute

For high-abrasion applications where standard flexible hose would wear through quickly. Steel cone segments protect the interior against direct impact from coarse lumps and sharp mineral edges, while the flexible hose structure between cones absorbs movement. Individual cones are replaced when worn rather than the entire chute.

  • Steel cone reinforced, wear resistant yet flexible
  • Coal, chrome, iron ore, aggregate, crushed stone
  • Individual cone replacement rather than full chute
  • Extended service life in high-wear mining applications

Also known as: armoured loading chute, wear-resistant loading spout, cone chute

TYPE 3

Telescopic Loading Spout

The industry-standard solution for variable drop height loading. Inner sections extend downward as the vessel fills, maintaining a consistently short drop height. This is the most effective way to reduce dust generation at source without fully enclosing the loading operation. Used extensively in South African mining, cement, grain and quarry loading operations.

  • Telescopic inner sections that extend and retract
  • Maintains controlled drop height throughout loading
  • Significantly reduces dust at transfer point
  • Manual or motorised extension available

Also known as: telescopic loading chute, loading spout, extendable loading chute, truck loading spout

TYPE 4

Dust-Free Truck Loading System

Our most sophisticated product: a fully enclosed, dust-free truck loading system with steadied head for accurate positioning over the truck body. The flexible outer dust skirt seals against the truck rim, completely containing dust generated during loading. Compliant with South African environmental dust emission regulations and MHSA dust exposure requirements.

  • Fully dust-free open truck loading operation
  • Steadied head for accurate positioning over truck body
  • Flexible dust containment skirt seals to truck rim
  • Environmental and MHSA dust compliance

Also known as: dust-free loading chute, enclosed truck loader, dust suppression loading spout

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about bulk material loading equipment and dust control in South Africa.

What is a telescopic loading spout?
A telescopic loading spout - also referred to as a telescopic loading chute - is a bulk material loading device that uses sliding inner sections to extend the discharge point downward as the receiving vessel fills. This maintains a short, controlled drop height throughout the loading cycle rather than allowing a progressively longer free-fall as the truck, wagon or silo fills. The shorter drop height dramatically reduces dust generation and material degradation. Telescopic loading spouts are widely used in South African mining, cement, quarry and grain operations.
What bulk material loading equipment do you supply in Johannesburg?
From our Strijdompark, Johannesburg facility we supply four types of bulk material loading equipment: standard flexible loading chutes, steel cone reinforced loading chutes for abrasive materials, telescopic loading spouts for variable drop height applications, and dust-free truck loading systems with steadied head for open truck loading. We also supply spare parts for all our equipment and provide advisory services on conveying, de-dusting and storage. Call us on +27 11 793-7164.
How do I control dust when loading trucks with bulk materials?
Dust during truck loading is caused by two things: the impact of falling material and the displacement of air as the truck body fills. The most effective solution is a dust-free loading system - a loading chute or spout with a flexible outer dust skirt that seals against the truck body rim, containing the dust cloud inside the vehicle. For operations where full containment is not practical, a telescopic loading spout that keeps the discharge point close to the material surface throughout loading will significantly reduce dust at source. Stotko Engineering supplies both solutions from Johannesburg. Contact us on +27 11 793-7164.
What is the difference between a loading chute and a loading spout?
In South African industry the terms loading chute and loading spout are widely used interchangeably to describe bulk material loading devices. Technically, loading spout more often refers to a telescopic device designed for enclosed or semi-enclosed loading of fine materials such as cement, grain or fertiliser, while loading chute may describe a broader range of fixed or flexible discharge devices including cone-reinforced designs for coarse materials. At Stotko Engineering our product range covers all configurations and we use both terms to help customers find us regardless of the term they use.
What materials can your loading equipment handle?
Our bulk material loading equipment handles dry bulk materials including coal, mineral ores, crushed stone, gravel, sand, grain, maize, soya, fertiliser, cement powder, fly ash and similar products. The steel cone reinforced design is suited to coarse, abrasive and heavy materials like run-of-mine ore and large-lump aggregate. The standard flexible chute handles grain, fine powder and lighter materials. Contact us with your specific material, lump size and throughput rate and we will select the correct configuration.
Do you supply loading equipment to the South African mining industry?
Yes. We have supplied bulk material loading equipment to South African mining operations since 1973. Our steel cone reinforced loading chutes and telescopic loading spouts are specifically suited to the high-wear, high-throughput conditions of mine loading stations. We have supplied to coal, gold, platinum, chrome, iron ore and aggregate operations. Our equipment also assists with MHSA dust exposure requirements. Contact us on +27 11 793-7164 or via our contact form with your application requirements.
Can you supply spare parts for existing loading equipment?
Yes. Quick spare part replacement is a deliberate design principle across all our loading equipment. Wear components including flexible hose sections, wear cones and fastening hardware are designed for in-field replacement without specialised tooling. We supply spare parts from Johannesburg. Contact us with your equipment details and we will advise on the correct parts and lead time.
